Artist makes portrait of Former pope out of condoms

25-year-old artist Niki Johnson has used 17,000 coloured, non-lubricated condoms, to create a stunning portrait of former Pope Benedict XVI.

She started the piece back in 2009 after Benedict said that using condoms could increase AIDS in Africa. The project took a total of 270 hours spread over three years.

Johnson hopes to use the portrait to challenged the church’s position on using condoms and promote more open discussion about sexual health.
