Meet “Flamy” the burn ward mascot

Children who have suffered horrific burns may be lucky enough to get a visit from Flamy, a terrifying, angry-looking fire-demon… and then suffer horrific nightmares.

"I like to watch children burn."

“I like to watch children burn.”

Flamy (“Chaminha” in Portuguese) is the new mascot for the burn ward at Fundacao Hospital in Minas Gerais, Brazil. He spends time with children who have suffered severe burns, and visits surrounding schools and hospitals, teaching children to avoid flammable material, what to do in the event of a fire, and how to treat burns.

Dear Ann,Jason, Joe, Gracey, Vivi and I just spent some time brainstorming names for your frog. The name we all agree we like the best was a joint efroft, stemming from Joe’s initial inspiration: Vern (full name, Vern L. Pool). Other name ideas we liked: Anura (for the Greek name of the Order of frogs, meaning tailless ); Felix, Leap, Crocket, Paddy (my second favorite), Verde (Spanish for green). Can’t wait to hear what you eventually name him! Let Jason and the girls know, too, by e-mailing them at .Merry Christmas! Ribbit!Marie
