Odd things, daily.
Remember the man who refused to sell his house to make way for a highway, so the Chinese government built the highway around his house? Well sadly, the story didn’t end with him tying a bunch of balloons to his house and floating away, like many of us suspected.
After months of pressure, duck farmer Luo Baogen and his wife decided to accept the compensation of 260,000 yuan ($40,000) and sold the house. It was demolished on Saturday.
Baogen and his wife have remained quiet on the subject, but Xiayangzhang village chief, Chen Xuecai, said it was all the attention that finally convinced the couple to sell. Chen explained:
“Luo Baogen received dozens of people from the media every day and his house stands in the centre of the road. So he decided to demolish the house.”
