Odd things, daily.
20-year-old Brazilian woman Catarina Migliorini has been auctioning off her virginity online for the past three weeks. The highest bidder is a Japanese man known only as “Natsu”. To avoid prostitution laws, the sex will take place aboard a plane somewhere between Australia and the U.S.
The auction is part of an upcoming documentary project called “Virgins Wanted”, by Australian filmmaker Justin Sisely. The film follows Migliorini and a male counterpart, Alex Stephanov, who’s virginity auction only reached $3,000.
Before the deed is done, Migliorini will be tested to prove she is in fact still a virgin, and “Natsu” will be tested for sexually transmitted deseases. “Natsu” will wear a condom and has been specifically told that no sex toys are allowed to be used during the lovemaking.
Although sex for money is the definition of prostitution, Migliorini doesn’t see herself that way. “If you only do it once in your life then you are not a prostitute,” she explained. “Just like if you take one amazing photograph it does not automatically make you a photographer.”
Migliorini claims she will give ninety percent of the money to charity. She said, “The auction is just business, I’m a romantic girl at heart and believe in love. But this will make a big difference to my area.”
