Brazilian city hires Batman to help fight crime

Officials in Taubaté, Brazil, have hired a retired soldier to dress up as Batman and patrol the streets of the most crime ridden neighbourhoods in the city.

In a statement issued by Taubaté police, former military man André Luiz Pinheiro will walk the streets wearing the bat-costume and “help to combat crimes such as murder and drug trafficking which have increased.”

Whilst it is still unclear exactly how hands-on Pinheiro’s role will be, officials want him to act as a conduit between the community and the police. The hope is that “Brazilian Batman” will become an approachable presence in the city’s most troubled areas.

I have the distinct feeling that Batman is going to get bashed.

Love the fact they published his name in their statement – as if superheroes need anonymity anyway

Seriously. Did they learn nothing from every superhero movie ever made!?
