“Miss Lovely Eyes” beauty pageant

The “Miss Lovely Eyes” beauty pageant was hosted in Florida in the 1930s, and involved contestants wearing burlap sacks over their heads.

Even though “faceless” women in bathing suits seems extremely sexist by today’s standards, the pageant was thought of as progressive at the time, where contestants were judged by something other than their looks.

In later years, contestants ditched the sacks for Hannibal Lecter style masks.

Creepy.

There is definitely a movie idea in that last image.
